Plant Technical Operator

The Top Energy Group operates throughout the Far North delivering geothermal electricity generation and electricity network operations. Our purpose is providing affordable and sustainable energy for Far North consumers, which we are achieving by transforming the Top Energy Group into a technology-enabled energy company that generates and facilitates two-way energy flow between renewable energy generators and consumers.

We are seeking a Plant Technical Operator with good practical and technical skills to provide routine monitoring of the Geothermal Plant conditions to achieve a safe and reliable operation, and to maintain the output and availability of the plant and ensure compliance with environmental consent. You will be joining a supportive, friendly and dynamic team that are extremely passionate about what they do. This role offers the benefit of living in the beautiful Bay of Islands, whilst working at New Zealand's only Consumer Trust-owned major hazard facility, delivering renewable and sustainable energy.

This position will report to the Lead Operator and will be based at Ngawha. It is expected that the successful applicant will live no more than 30 minutes of travel time from the Generation Plant.

Key areas of focus will be to:

  • Operate and monitor all power station systems
  • Identify, develop, and enhance current operating procedures
  • Carry out preventative maintenance procedures
  • Authorise and organise the work plan for staff and contractors
  • Carry out the Lock and Tag safety management system
  • Effectively manage the geothermal resource and consent conditions

To succeed in this role, you will have had relevant experience in an industrial setting and will be competent in industrial automation and control systems.

You will have been involved in the planning of plant shutdowns and their execution. You will also need to have the ability to understand engineering drawings and principles. Additional areas of responsibility will include assistance with maintenance and scheduled work. Whilst prior work experience in the energy industry is preferred, this position could suit a person who has completed an apprenticeship or formal trade training and certification in a complementing discipline for this role. They could then gain knowledge and practical skills through ENCHEM studies and on the job training in a go-ahead energy business and become a valued team member of ours. It would be an advantage to have experience in Mechanical/Electrical fitting or maintenance within an engineering environment, Control and Instrumentation, Plant condition or Environmental monitoring, as well as knowledge of the Geothermal industry.
